Seeing as the chaos of black Friday and cyber Monday is upon us, or (as I like to think) as we enter the season of giving (and blogger gift guides!), I thought I would put together a list of some great gifts for the traveler in your life.
I stayed away from any crazy photography gifts. Although photography tech is popular among travelers, those can be so personal and outrageously expensive. Unless you know exactly what brand of camera they use or their style of photography, you run the risk of spending a whole lotta money on something that doesn’t suit them.
Most of these gifts could be for a girl or guy, I own a version of a few of them, a lot of them I dream of investing in one day, some are splurges, some are steals–you get the idea. The list is diverse enough so that hopefully you might find something for the traveler in your life!
Keep reading and see why these items made my list! 🙂
To me, this is the holy grail of all suitcases. It makes my daydreams of old world travel come true. You know, like those old movies with high class ladies boarding trains for destinations unknown with their steamer trunks brimming. This suitcase obliterates all modern notions of travel, including but not limited to the plane goers ugg boot/track suit uniform and the ugly, heavy duty black canvas boxes we like to call suitcases today. If only I could buy the whole set! I would love to try a hard side carry on sized suitcase that would protect my camera gear. I’m thinking by strategically packing camera gear in a hard side carry on, I could free up my hands! It’s probably more fashionable than functional (maybe), but it’s not easy to find a beautiful piece of luggage!
2) Venturesafe™ 15L GII anti-theft day pack – SPLURGE
Okay, so definitely function over fashion for this one right here! This is a perfect daypack for the solo traveler or anyone going to less than safe destinations. If I ever take a year off to travel by myself I would definitely bring this baby with me. <3
Not every travel gift has to serve someone when they’re on the road! Travelers also like to decorate their abodes (if they have one) with decor that inspires their passion. I would totally use this as a coffee table book for my daily dose of travel inspo. National Geographic has tons of various books like this for the world traveler.
4) Gin and Tonic Carry-On Cocktail Kit – STEAL
This literally cracks me up! I want ten of these! How cute is this little cocktail carry-on kit? Definitely for the hipster traveler, or the anxious traveler? Anyone who hates flying would love a little cocktail to calm their nerves before flight. Oh my gosh, or this would be so cute for a couple who is flying on their honeymoon! Literally just thought of that because each kit makes 2 drinks! It doesn’t come with the alcohol (which they could purchase in flight), but you could get them two mini bottles of their favorite alcohol to make it more personalized.
5) Apple World Travel Adapter Kit – STEAL
A good friend of my family got this for my Christmas present one year right before I was studying abroad in Ireland and I seriously cannot live without it. I am so glad I didn’t just purchase a European adapter or UK adapter, because you never know where you’ll end up. You may have a layover in a foreign country you didn’t plan to have an adapter for, but this will save you every time you need a charge in any overseas airport!
6) Aspinal of London Classic Travel Wallet – SPLURGE
Okay, this may be the most ridiculous thing on here but I l-o-v-e it! How cute are those tiny leather filing tabs!? My grandparents gave me a leather travel wallet right before I went abroad. le sigh! I love it and use it on every single major trip. I took it abroad all over Europe, to India, and even to Africa which may seem a little too fancy but it keeps ALL your documents organized! Especially if you have multiple flights on your itinerary. I took about 4 plane trips just to get to Botswana, so I kept all of my boarding passes, vaccination documents, malaria prescription paperwork, my passport, and even a paper copy of my passport in a wallet like this one. Am I nerding out right now? Whatever, I love organizing all my travel documents. I get so excited organizing for upcoming trips and it definitely makes it stress free!
7) World Map (Antique) Art 24×36 Poster – STEAL
Just like the National Geographic coffee table book, this is a unique gift to decorate the travel lover’s home. This is a vintage version, but there are all kinds of maps you can find nowadays on etsy or amazon. I love maps and think they make great wall art!
8) Teakwood Swell Bottle – STEAL
This is a really versatile piece because it will keep beverages cold or hot for up to 12 hours. For the traveler who likes to pack light this is a great gift that will do double duty for both their hot and cold drinks on the road. They’re super trendy right now and come in a variety of patterns and colors. I just happen to love the classic wood style of this one. They’re also eco-friendly and will save on some of those tiny in-flight water bottles!
9) Turkish Linen Towel – STEAL
Speaking of the traveler who likes to pack light and items doing double duty, I found this etsy shop that handmakes Turkish cotton towels. This handy dandy towel can be used as a sarong, beach towel, shower towel, blanket…scarf! I think everyone knows how much I love a versatile travel scarf! Though they don’t mention “scarf” in the description, I’m sure you could get creative. 😉 It’s super absorbent and dries quickly which makes it the perfect travel towel to take from the chilly plane to the warm beach!
10) Floppy Wool Hat– SPLURGE
Every traveler needs a mysterious hat. It keeps things interesting! And it also covers up dirty hair when you’ve crossed too many time zones and you don’t know what day you last washed your hair…
11) Travel Journal – STEAL
Just like a hat, every traveler needs a travel journal. Blogs and facebook have kind of taken over the modern form of journaling, but nothing beats sitting down after a day of exploring and jotting down where you’ve been, what you’ve seen, and who you’ve met. Thanks for building this early habit mom and dad! 😉
12) Antique Compass Long Chain Pendant Necklace – SPLURGE or STEAL
Get creative and find travel inspired jewelry. My parent got me a necklace for Christmas one year that had a compass on the front and a quote on the back which I loved. The one I linked above is a cheaper version of antique compasses that you can search on etsy or ebay within your price range. Then just take it to a jeweler to get it strung et voila, you’ve made a travel inspired necklace! You get diy and thoughtful points!
13) Bon Voyage Passport Holder – SPLURGE
Most travelers prize their passport above all their other possessions, and what other way to keep it safe then to get it a passport cover! I love Kate Spade’s travel accessory section (they have a cute travel wallets too!), especially when they put cute little sayings on them like “ready for departure”–love it!
Thanks for reading guys!
