For my 22nd birthday, I was generously gifted a flight lesson. AH! I know…
At the time I was still living at home in Torrance California, just 20 minutes (without traffic 😉 ) southwest of Los Angeles.
This was something I NEVER, ever would have thought to do on my own, but it was such a cool experience! It’s a great gift for a big milestone birthday, or if you’re just looking for your next adventure.
Because I live near LA, the allotted time of the lesson allowed us to either fly around the south bay over Long Beach, around Palos Verdes, and to the Hollywood sign and back. The other the option was to fly to Catalina Island and back. So COOL!
Since I was little nervous about personally flying myself over a 26 miles of open sea, I opted for the south bay tour. It was such a good choice!
I actually got to take-off, fly, steer, and land the plane, but I of course had a co-pilot to walk me through the steps and handle most of the mechanical issues.
If this is something your hometown offers I highly recommend it. It was so special to see my whole childhood world from above: my high school, my house, my local beach, my old soccer fields, the train tracks that run along my house…it gave me a fresh perspective on all that I was about to leave for my first job. It was such a unique gift and created memories that will last a lifetime.
How about you? Have you ever flown a plane? What is the craziest gift you’ve ever received? This was definitely mine!
